Privacy Policy

How we handle the photos you submit, your collection data and the limited personal data involved in running Stampy.

Last updated: 13 October 2026

Overview

Stampy is an iPhone and iPad app that identifies postage stamps from photos and helps you organize a digital collection. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we process when you use the app and this website, why we process it, and what rights you have. We have written it in plain English and designed the app to collect as little personal data as reasonably possible.

Estimated values are informational. Any value Stampy shows is an estimate for research and organization. It is not a guaranteed sale price, an appraisal or a certification. This does not affect how we handle your data, but it is worth stating clearly.

Who we are

The data controller responsible for processing your personal data is:

Trusted Brands UG (haftungsbeschränkt)
Mühlensiek 9
32584 Löhne
Germany

For any privacy question or request, contact us at service@tbrands.de. Our full company details are listed in our Imprint.

What data we process

Depending on how you use Stampy, we may process the following categories of data:

  • Photos you submit. The images of stamps you take or select for identification, together with any image metadata they contain.
  • Identification results and collection data. The issue details and estimated values returned for a stamp, plus anything you add yourself, such as saved stamps, folders, notes, favorites and value sorting.
  • Purchase and subscription status. Whether you hold an active in-app purchase or subscription. This is provided by Apple; we do not receive your payment card details.
  • Optional email address. Only if you choose to join our newsletter or contact us for support.
  • Basic technical and diagnostic data. Information such as app version, device type, operating system version and crash or performance diagnostics, used to keep the app working and to fix problems.

How photos are used

When you submit a photo for identification, the image is processed to identify the stamp and generate issue details and an estimated value. To deliver that result, images may be transmitted to and processed by image-analysis and AI providers and the cloud hosting infrastructure we use to run the service.

We use submitted photos to perform the identification you requested and to operate, maintain and improve the accuracy and reliability of the service. We aim to retain submitted images only as long as needed for these purposes; see Data retention below. We do not sell your photos.

Collection data & iCloud

Your collection — saved stamps, folders, notes, favorites and value sorting — is stored on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, this data is synced across your own Apple devices through your personal iCloud account, using Apple's infrastructure.

iCloud is a service provided by Apple and governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy. We do not control iCloud and cannot access your iCloud account. You can manage or disable iCloud sync for Stampy in your device's iCloud settings.

Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on the following legal bases under Article 6(1):

  • Performance of a contract. To provide the identification, value estimates and collection features you use (Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Consent. For optional features such as newsletter sign-up, and where required for certain diagnostics. You can withdraw consent at any time (Art. 6(1)(a)).
  • Legitimate interests. To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, fix bugs and improve the product, balanced against your rights (Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Legal obligation. Where we must retain certain records to comply with law (Art. 6(1)(c)).

Purchases

Stampy is free to download and offers in-app purchases and subscriptions. All billing is handled by Apple through the App Store and Apple In-App Purchase. Apple processes your payment data; we do not receive or store your credit card or other payment details. We receive only the information needed to unlock and maintain your purchased features, such as your purchase or subscription status.

Analytics & diagnostics

We may process basic, aggregated analytics and diagnostic data to understand how the app performs and where it fails, so we can fix problems and improve it. This can include Apple-provided crash and usage data where you have enabled sharing of such data with developers in your device settings. We aim to keep this data minimal and, where feasible, not tied to your identity.

Third parties / sub-processors

We use a small number of service providers that process data on our behalf, strictly to deliver the service. By category, these currently include:

  • Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers.
  • Image-analysis and AI image-processing providers used to identify stamps.
  • Apple App Store and Apple In-App Purchase, for distribution and billing.
  • Apple iCloud, for optional syncing of your collection across your own devices.
  • Diagnostics and crash-reporting providers, where used.

A current list of the specific service providers we use is available on request via the contact address above.

Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Submitted photos are retained only as long as needed to perform and support the identification. Collection data stored on your device and in your iCloud remains until you delete it or remove the app. Where we no longer need data, we delete or anonymize it.

International transfers

Some of our providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, for example where hosting or image-analysis services operate in other countries. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognized under the GDPR, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision, to protect your data.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request rectification of inaccurate data.
  • Request erasure of your data.
  • Request restriction of processing.
  • Data portability, where applicable.
  • Object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at service@tbrands.de. Note that collection data synced through your own iCloud account is managed in your Apple account and device settings.

Children

Stampy is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

Data security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss or misuse, including encryption in transit where appropriate. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to review our safeguards.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app, our providers or the law. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
